During a long period of academic training in drawing and painting from life, David Paul Elsea has studied in Seattle under Ron Lukas, a long time apprentice to the Russian Impressionist Sergei Bongart, Michael Burban at the Art Students League in New York, and Michel Houssin at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Nice France. He also devoted many years to studying the drawings of the 16th century Italian Masters and the 19th century French Painters.

Today, David's paintings are the result of this time of study, and the good influence of the great painters of the past. Over the years David has combined this training with his knowledge of French Impressionism, and developed his own way of working with the palette, combining colors intuitively and spontaneously.  Although his training in drawing and color are still the foundation of his art, his paintings are more sensual now, and inspired as much by music as by nature.

David's paintings are held in numerous private and government collections in Europe and America.
